History of Frotex SA
The history of Zakłady Przemysłu Bawełnianego Frotex S.A. began in the middle
of XIX century, when Samuel Frankel built linen fabric factory on the area of
present Frotex in 1845. Soon his factory took over competitive, bankrupt company
and became the monopolist in the region.
The production of first terry fabrics and towels started in 1903. The 1st World
War stopped dynamic growth of the factory, which products were known on German,
English, French and American markets. By virtue of Nuremberg agreement company
was taken over from inheritors of Samuel Frankel in 1938, while they were forced
to emigrate. After the 2nd World War the reconstruction of the factory were started
and finished in 1949. |

Since then has became long period of recovering to the former magnificence of
the Company, now on the area of Poland. The Company was named "Frotex"
in 1965.
Next remarkable period in the history of Frotex began with implementation of numerous
system and technological changes - modernization of Spinning Mill, Dyeing Plant,
starting the newest technical line of unicolor towels and also opening the Purification
Plant in 1992. Frotex was transformed into State Treasury Company in the same
year. Frotex was joined to the General Privatization Program and included in the
Second National Investment Fund in 1995.
In 2002 the authorities of the 2nd National Investment Fund decided to sell majority
shareholding to company named Frotex Management, that actually hold 72% of Frotex
shares. |
